Music

I tend to truly believe that music makes the world go ’round.  I am VERY passionate about music.  I am a musician, therefore I’m fairly biased.  I connect with God and truly worship best through music.  There are seasons in my life where certian songs or artists define events in my life just like the score to a movie.  I am a self-professed music GEEK!!  I love it all (minus a few).  I come from a fairly musical family (including a cousin playing french horn for the Boston Pops…way to go Jason!).  I intend to post song, record and concert reviews in this blog so…..stay tuned.

Check out the band I play drums in HERE.

For the meantime, I will list a few of the bands and artists which have or have had influence in my musical pallette (in no particular order):

U2, Foo Fighters, Ryan Adams, Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam, Hillsong United, The Black Crowes, Stevie Wonder, The Dave Matthews Band, Chris Tomlin, John Mayer, Bruce Hornsby, The Doobie Brothers, Widespread Panic, Nickel Creek, MuteMath, John Mellencamp, Cake, Son Volt, Sly and the Family Stone, Merle Haggard, Heart, Phish, Credence Clearwater Revival, Coldplay, Alabama, Sarah McLaughlin, The Grayboy Allstars, The Cure, Jeff Buckley, O.A.R., Beastie Boys, Live, Jimi Hendrix, The David Crowder Band, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Earth, Wind and Fire, Poison, The Police, The Grateful Dead, Herbie Hancock, The Doors, Aerosmith, Wolfmother, James Taylor, Blue Oyster Cult, Bob Marley, Wilco, Soundgarden, Jack Johnson, The Bangles, Alan Jackson, R.E.M., Guns ‘n Roses, Steve Winwood, Steely Dan, Lenny Kravitz, 311, Galactic, Smashing Pumpkins, Midnite Oil, Queen, Weezer, Guster, The North Mississippi Allstars, Mark Knopfler / Dire Straits, Miles Davis, Jackopierce, Switchfoot, Phantom Planet, Gomez, Allman Brothers Band, The White Stripes, Kiss, etc……  (I intend to add)

As a drummer I must give credit to the drummers and percussionists who have influenced my style and approach to playing:      Steve Gorman (Black Crowes); Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers); John Bonham (duh..Led Zeppelin); Matt Cameron (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden); Sonny Ortiz (Perc., Widespread Panic); Stewart Copeland (The Police); Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters); Jim Bloodgood (Sara Evans); Jojo Mayer (independent); Dave Weckl (independent).

I like Jackopierce too. Have not heard anything since college.

JP is pretty pimp-tite. They toured in the early ’00’s. Saw them at 3rd and Lindsley in ‘03 or ‘04 if I’m not mistaken.

What’s up, no Allman Brothers Band?

4. Jad - May 1, 2008

Hey. Honestly , i can’t remember how i got here. Ah yes – Jim Bloodgood, ..great drummer. I actually played with Jim (before his head got too big to call me back, LOL!) when we both lived out in Northern California. We had a very short-lived cover band called “Time Dogz” , and Jim and i also recorded some demo stuff of some original songs ,wish i had that tape! Anyway , if you ever meet him , tel him Vinny said “Hey”. LOL!

@ Vinny: Thanks for the comment. Jim is great. We both go to the same church here in Nashville and I’ll occasionally play percussion while he plays kit. He’s a monster. I’ll tell him you said hey!

JP has a new album that just released, Promise of Summer. I’ve heard bits and pieces, sounds good. They are playing at The Belcourt October 10th. I have tickets…
