pre⋅ten⋅tious  [pri-ten-shuhs]

–adjective- characterized by assumption of dignity or importance.

Hmmmm.

Sorry but I just get annoyed with things that are too pretentious.

Pretentious music, pretentious restaurants, pretentious people, etc. etc.

One might say that I picked the wrong career if I didn’t like pretentious people.

Now, let me step back for a minute…is this because I myself am pretentious?  Or is it just that I’m jealous of people who are pretentious? Do I secretly want to be as pretentious as they are?

Truth be told, I haven’t even really been using the word correctly.  When looking up the definition this morning I was kind of taken aback.  Because really, don’t we all want to FEEL “dignified and important?”  I think it’s just human nature.

My question is:  Where does Christianity fit into this discussion?  So many people look at Christians as being “pretentious” and I don’t disagree.  As Christians, shouldn’t we completely understand that we don’t need to project a pretantious air about us?  Shouldn’t we have faith that a loving God already holds us as “dignified and important?”

OKAY…so I’m done ranting.

But hey, if you want to join in the discussion then feel free.  Enjoy your Monday.

I’m too pretentious to comment on your blog but if I wasn’t I would tell you that I totally agree with you. :)

My opinion is that too often Christians are looked at as pretenious by intellectual athiests. Why is this? I don’t know, but the bible warns us of this. I would rather introduce the weak to God, rather than the proud. The cool thing about AA is you run into both.
