With Labor Day and the first weekend of college football behind us already, Fall is right on our doorstep. Even though we have approximately 3 more weeks of warm weather, the nighttime temps will start to drop and so will the humidity.
In fact, while I love the Summer (and would consider it my favorite season), there is something really exciting about the arrival of Fall every year.
Therefore, in honor of Brad Ruggles’ post yesterday regarding the Summer, I thus give you:
My top 12 reasons why I love the Fall (minus the cool graphics that Brad is so good at doing)
12. Camping….Camping in the Fall is like nothing else. It’s cool enough to require a fire but not cold enough to be miserable and during the day is oh so temperate.
11. Back to School….So while this reason may seem like a reason to hate the Fall, I always enjoyed going back to see friends and start anew…especially in college.
10. New TV Shows….New seasons of your favorite shows…see last Thursday’s post.
9. Rain…Although this may seem weird, the Fall usually brings some much needed rain to Nashville (especially in November). Not the big downpours but steady light rain.
8. The Beach….While this was on Brad’s Summer list, I have to list it for Fall here. It’s an awesome time to go (and much less crowded). We’ve gone every year for some time now during the fall.
7. Festivals….There are always good fall festivals and fun events in the Fall. My favorite is Oktoberfest in Germantown.
6. Thanksgiving….Day full of stuffing yourself and watching football. Need I say more?
5. Turning Leaves….This is obviously what people think about when Fall is mentioned. I love it. The drive from Nashville to Knoxville in mid-October is gorgeous.
4. Fires….Again, a Ruggles reason for the summer; this time moved either indoors or in the fire pit or chiminea outside. Nothing like hanging around a fire with good friends.
3. Temperate Weather….This is one of the main things that makes the Fall great. The weather breaks in mid-September and gradually cools through November. Low Humidity, bright clear skies, the crisp air….ahhh. Such a great time to be outside.
2. Halloween….I absolutely love Halloween. I know it seems juvenile but there’s just something about it that I love. I loved going to haunted houses as a kid, I loved dressing up, I also loved acting in haunted houses as I got older. If there’s a good Halloween party even now, I love going and dressing up with wifey. Regardless, it’s just a fun day and you get lots of candy.
1. Football…There are several sub-parts to this: College Football, NFL Football, Fantasy Football, Tailgating, Football parties, Monday Night Football, High School Football, SEC Rivalries, so on and so forth. For some reason from September to even January, the Duncan household revolves around Football.
So tell me….why do you love the Fall?
I'm Jad. I'm married to a beautiful wife, live in the beautiful city of Nashville and have a beautiful life. First and foremost, I'm a Christian. Secondarily, I'm an attorney, a musician, and a big 'ol kid.

I love #’s 12, 9, 5, and 1!
That is the prettiest pic I’ve ever seen….
Summers over, my a**. It’s hot!
All of the above, plus sweatshirts!
ps. I’m blogging again. Please adjust your life accordingly!
@Jody: Oh, I know it’s still hot now but like I said…wait until about Sept. 10-20, almost like clockwork the weather will break.
@Mudpuppy: I agree on the sweatshirts…I’d include flannel as well.
Welcome back Brother!
Great list Jad! You’re totally right about Fall being an awesome season. For me it always got a bad rap because (A) it always seemed so short and (B) it meant that Winter was coming and of all the seasons, Winter is the big ugly bully on the playground that sends me home crying (ok, maybe a bit of an exaggeration there).
I would add to the list FALL FESTIVALS! There is this place up in Michigan we used to go to and get Apple Cider, go on hayrides and eat carmel apples. Good times.
Speaking of Michigan, the Fall up here is the #1 reason for sticking around these parts!
