Who Else is Obsessed with Weather? August 18, 2008

I admit. I’m obsessed with weather. Maybe it comes from my days of working on the golf course, maybe it comes from my ridiculous fear of driving in the rain (blog post in itself) or maybe I’m just a dork. I don’t know, but I just like keeping up with weather.
I love the statistics associated with weather. High temps, low temps, barometric pressure, rainfall amounts, rainfall surplus vs. rainfall deficit, etc. etc. I just installed digital thermometers outside of the house and I check them quite regularly. Lately, it’s been fun to see the highs and lows at the house and compare them to the highs and lows that the stations are reporting. Ok, so REALLY I’m a dork.

I’ll be honest, when Melissa and I first started coming to crosspoint and I noticed that local weatherman, Charlie Neese was an ELDER, I knew right away that I would bug the snot out of him. And I still do. But I love Charlie’s response…”If I didn’t enjoy what I do, then I would hate talking about the weather, otherwise I’ll talk to you all day long.” Charlie just started twittering as well so you can follow him for Nashville weather updates.
Charlie’s been doing really well lately though because Nashville weather has been spectacular for a little over 2 weeks. I should say that actually God’s doing well, but for some reason we all think that the weatherguy has something to do with the weather.
I'm Jad. I'm married to a beautiful wife, live in the beautiful city of Nashville and have a beautiful life. First and foremost, I'm a Christian. Secondarily, I'm an attorney, a musician, and a big 'ol kid.

you’re a dork.. However, I did religiously check the weather when I had a Jeep…and there were times I hated the weatherman for being wrong. nothing like telling your passengers to keep their purse of the floor cause it’s wet…
Im with grisham,your a dork,but its ok,im equally a dork.
Im acually obsessd with I.T. stuff. Anytime there is a new OS coming out, a new server array ,or some new website that is going to “Change Everything”,im on it.
If you’re a dork because you love weather, what does that make me??? A bigger dork??? With that said, thanks for posting my dork picture on your post. Who said meteorologists get no respect? Really, it’s all good… Really…
@Charlie: Sorry bro. I should have said that anyone who is as obsessed as myself and doesn’t do weather professionally is a dork.
Kind of like Star Wars fans that dress up to go see the movie…they’re dressed up just like the actors but they really aren’t actors…they’re big nerds.
I will be wearing my “I “heart” Charlie” shirt to church on Sunday.
I guess I’m a dorkette – I think I just created a new word……I LOVE THE WEATHER, TOO!! I like to check in with Charlie on Channel 5, I love to check it online at weather.com, I love to use my digital thermometer that projects the time/temp onto my ceiling (I know the weather before I even crawl out of bed in the a.m.) so I totally understand you Jad. Maybe we can form a dorky little weather club!? LOL
For those that did not grow up with Jad (which I think I can safely say is most of you), you should know that every time I went over to Jad’s house in high school, his parents were always watching The Weather Channel. This was back before TWC actually had any programming. It was just “Local on the 8’s” and a big hour-long forecast for every city, state and country. And they watched it….constantly. So, some may call Jad a dork, but I say he’s just getting back to his roots.

Oh yes, I am obsessed with weather as well. Growing up in Wisconsin the weather changed all the time and then moving to New England where the weather could be all four seasons in one day. Now living in Florida, I’m watching Tropical Storm Fay very closely.
I used to be obsessed with the weather because I worked on the ocean. Now, I only keep an eye out for the best and the worst of it.
I’m not obsessed with the weather, but I am obsessed with the weatherman!!!!
Great post, Jad – thanks for giving my husband some blog love all in the name of weather!
Yes, I’m definitely a weather geek!
I’m a weather nut. Especially from Nov-Feb.
